On 12 and 13 May 2020 Udacity held their online conference “AI for Healthcare in the Time of COVID-19”. The conference has been recorded and featured many interesting speakers and panel discussions. The conference attracted nearly 15,000 live attendees, one of the highest attended Udacity events, a strong indicator of interest in the area.

A personal highlight was the talk with Dr Eric Topol, a renowed medical research, exploring COVID-19 and the role of AI in fighting disease and assisting clinicians, a particular goal to enable doctors to build closer relationships with patients.

Other interesting discussions include:

  • The kinds of applications for AI in healthcare
  • The role of data and data privacy
  • How AI might integrate into the care pathway
  • How AI might integrate into medical and healthcare education

Udacity recently announced a Nanodegree “AI for Healthcare“. Which looks like a great program exploring some of the discussed concepts further.

The presentations are an excellent primer for anyone considering a career in AI and Healthcare. Highly recommended watching.
